More "Stuff"

Summer TV Watching
I was so excited for the Season 2 Premier of Army Wives on Lifetime. I love this show and the premier was worth the wait. If you didn’t follow it last season, it’s now on DVD so you can catch up. I highly recommend it.

On disappointing note, I watched the new season of Nashville Star last night. I had always been a fan of this show also and was excited to hear that it had been picked up by NBC now that I don’t get the USA Network. Sadly I was disappointed by the first episode. Somehow the show has lost something…talent being one of those things. The only two contestants that I thought were any good at all were Gabe Garcia and Melissa (don’t remember her last name). They both sounded really good. I’ll probably keep watching it because it’s summer and there is not much else on.

Late to Work
I found this article on MSN this morning. I was drawn to it because I am consistently late to work. Usually not by much, but same days are better than others. Sometimes I have some very legitimate excuses, but other days it’s just plain running behind. And it doesn’t matter how early I get up. I think I just have an aversion to going to work because I have no trouble being on time when I want to be somewhere. I always get up with the intention of being at work on time…that has to count for something.

Not-So-Clean Office
Someone (you know who you are) commented on Sunday how it must be nice to work some place where your office didn’t have to be clean before you left work. Ouch! =o) Yes, I know my office is a mess, but it’s not ALL my fault. I only take responsibility for the area around my computer and half responsibility for the stuff on the credenza behind me. I have so much stuff I have to store in my office and so much junk people put in my office (they think I’m their store room). What’s worse is that I have a closet in my office, but it has a filing cabinet that two other secretaries won’t let me remove because there is stuff stored in one drawer that they claim they need. I have been in here about 4-5 years and not once have they ever gotten into that filing cabinet.

Weird Dream
I know you’re SHOCKED to hear I had another weird dream, but this one is bugging me for some reason. Since I was in High School, I have had this reoccurring theme to my dreams from time to time where I have to marry someone I don’t want to marry. I actually hadn’t one of these dreams in quite a while, but had another one last night. This time though I was marrying someone from my distant past that I’m actually kind of repulsed by because of a dating experience with him. Thankfully in the course of the dream he also decided that he didn’t want to marry me either so the day of the wedding, we called it off. I was really relieved…and for the first time ever in these dreams, I got out of having to marry the person. Hmmm…

Make It Stop!!!

I haven’t written much about Relay for Life this year, but this I’m going to share.

We are less than 6 weeks away from the event. For the most part, things are going okay, but there is still a lot that needs to be done and we’re still a ways from reaching some of our goals.

I guess the “lot to be done” part is really getting to me because all night, I dreamed about Relay. I dreamed that it was today (that woke me up in cold sweat several times). I dreamed that we were only able to get one case of water donated. I dreamed we didn’t have any food. I dreamed that everyone set up in my neighborhood instead of at UCO. I dreamed I got trapped on the top floor of someplace and couldn’t get into an elevator to go down (that I think was a flashback to Relay Summit in Dallas).

I kept waking up during the night from bad dreams and every dream was about Relay. I hope this doesn’t become a trend or I’m not going to be getting much sleep in the next several weeks.

Things I’ve Learned in the Last Week

Supposedly the reoccurring theme of driving semi-trucks in my dreams lately commonly means that I feel over-worked or I’m carrying a heavy burden. I kind of already suspected this was what I was going to find if I looked it up. In this case, it’s pretty accurate.

Wedding dress shopping can be overwhelming. I gladly helped a friend shop for hers the other night (the last dress turned out to be the winner), but there were so many to choose from and so much to take into consideration. I’m not so anxious to be doing the same for myself anytime soon.

The question “how is it that you are not married yet” is really starting to get on my nerves. I know it’s meant as a compliment, but if I knew the answer to that question wouldn’t it seem reasonable that I would be doing something about it. That question is better directed at the guys I’ve dated if you want an accurate answer.

This website is great. It’s a constant supply of music I like on my computer at work without having to go to all the work of downloading my existing CD’s. Plus it’s opened my eyes to some artists I wasn’t aware of. Thanks to my cousin for recommending it.

When putting away Christmas decorations, it is best to start with the Christmas tree box (at least in my case). It was not easy to put it away with all the other boxes in there…but mission accomplished (at least it’s out of sight).

I have to turn the heat up in my house if I want to get anything accomplished. I can’t get motivated if I’m cold. I’ve been keeping my thermostat low to save money…which is fine if I’m sleeping or watching TV. But it’s way too tempting to climb under a blanket instead of doing something productive if I’m cold. I’m ready for spring!!!

There is something about me that makes random men think that I can’t work the automated postage machine without their assistance. If you’re one of those men, thanks for the concern, but I do in fact know how to work it and if it appears I don’t, you might try backing up and stop breathing down my neck. I get things done a lot faster when someone (especially a stranger) is not looking over my shoulder. But again, thank you for your concern.

Hmmm

I have dreamed about babies three times this week. They are never mine though. I've had dreams I was pregnant (and always trying to explain to people that I didn't do anything and don't know how I got pregnant), but I have never had dreams that I recall where babies were the focus? I looked it up today in an online dream bank, but it wasn't helpful (didn't seem applicable). At first I thought it was because Suzy's sister just had a baby (sometimes events from a day will show up in some form in my dreams), but it happened again last night...twice. It's probably just because everybody and their dog is pregnant right now. =o)

Analyze This!

I’ve not really had time to post much lately, but I had this dream recently (either last week or the week before that…I don’t remember) and the dream is still sticking with me. I dreamed I was Ugly Betty and someone cut my feet off. And not in a hospital amputation kind of way, but in a hack saw no pain killer kind of way. And the whole dream was in a very flash back kind of way…where you see what happens and then you get snippets about how it all came about (which I couldn’t clearly tell you). But I can’t seem to get the fact that my feet were cut off out of my head. So all you Freud wannabes have at it!

Side note: How many times can one person use "kind of way" in on paragraph? Obviously at least 3...but I'm not changing it.

Lizard People

Last night I didn’t sleep too well. I kept having dreams that I was being chased by Lizard People. They were trying to turn me into one of them. The only way I could hide was to hide under beds (they didn’t seem to be smart enough to look under there.) At one point they caught me and were going to try to turn me into one of them by cutting a small hole in my arm, but I out smarted them and showed them the scar where I had a mole removed and told them they had already gotten to me (I just hadn’t morphed yet).

I kept waking up thinking if I laid there long enough and went back to sleep, I would dream something new…but no luck. Just more Lizard People. I was so tired when I got up this morning from a night full of interrupted sleep. And no, I did not eat anything weird and haven’t watched anything that would inspire this dream.

One friend said he’d pay to see the movie and a co-worker found this after my telling him about my dream last night.

This is weird

I have had dreams the last two nights about people from High School. I have no idea why. Nothing all that weird or significant about the dreams other than the fact that I probably haven’t thought about or seen most of these people since High School. That’s all I have to say about that.

Thoughts for the Week

My New Toy
A salesman came in yesterday trying to sell us a new phone system. Since we just replaced ours about three years ago and it’s not something you replace regularly, he was wasting his time. He DID bring me something really cool (not a stupid pen or magnet like they usually bring). He brought me an airplane! And of course, as soon as he left the office, I put it together and tried it out. It didn’t do too well in the office because it kept hitting the ceiling tiles, but it DID do awesome in the auditorium. Who could think I would be so easily entertained (okay, so everyone did.)

Pumpkin Carving
Warning, this can become addictive. What’s great is that it’s a lot easier to carve and NO CLEAN UP! There used to be a tradition with some of my college friends to have a pumpkin carving party every year, but we haven’t done it in a really long time. I thought about re-establishing the tradition this year with new friends, but decided it was too messy. So HERE consider yourself invited to my pumpkin carving party!

Hiccups
I got the hiccups really bad this afternoon. I hate the hiccups, especially when they are so bad that you can’t write or type because of the convulsions the cause.

House Numbers
I finally have house numbers. Now I just need to put them on the house. I tried Tuesday night, but it was after 7 p.m. and it was noisy and I didn’t want to make the neighbors mad, so I decided to hold off and maybe try at lunch today when no one is home.

The Post Office
If you live in Edmond and have every tried to send out a bulk mail, you know how trying it can be (especially when Silvia was in charge). Yesterday, one of our secretaries took a bulk mailing to the post office. When she got there, they didn’t have any sleeves for her to put the trays in, so she went to the counter. The normal lady wasn’t there, but Debbie could see a woman back there working. She waited a few minutes before the woman saw her and approached the counter. Here was their conversation:

Postal Employee: Did you need something?
Debbie: You are out of sleeves and I need some for my trays.
Postal Employee: Did you ring the bell?
Debbie: This bell? (pointing to the counter) No.
Postal Employee: You need to ring the bell.

Debbie stands there for a second trying to figure out if this woman was serious and decides she is. So she rings the bell.

Postal Employee: How can I help you?

Debbie seriously was looking for a hidden camera and said it was all she could do not to bust out laughing. Seriously, we are starting to wonder what test they give postal employees to determine if they are difficult enough people to work for them.

Nightmare
Last night (well, technically it was this morning) I had one of the worst nightmares I have had in a very long time. Hours later and I am STILL shaking. In my dream, I was living in an apartment (the big city kind that opens up into a hallway). A friend had come over and we were talking in my living room for a little bit and then he left. After he left, I decided to make pancakes. I had just finished and walked into the other room when I hear my front door open. Thinking it’s my friend, I peak around the corner. That’s when this guy is walking around my kitchen telling me he’s the apartment welcoming committee. He’s got a bottle of pills and it unwrapping something (cord or tape or something). The way the apartment was laid out, I was able to run out the front door without running past him. I’m running down the hall banging on door screaming and just about the time he grabbed me, I woke myself up screaming. I don’t know if I woke my roommate up (if I did, she wasn’t too worried), but it took me over 45 minutes to calm down enough to go back to sleep. I hate dreams like that.

Finally!!!

So, I finally met the man of my dreams. He’s kind, treats me like I’m the most important person in the world to him, very open about what’s on his mind, and makes me laugh. Oh, and did I mention he wasn’t bad looking either. Just a very genuinely nice guy. Only problem is (seriously, this is my life, you know there had to be a hitch) – he literally was the “man of my dreams.” I don’t know who in the world this man was, but I would LOVE to meet him. We had a really great time last night talking and hanging out. Now I’m kind of sad to be awake. Oh well, maybe if he makes an appearance every night, things won’t be so bad. We could make the relationship work. =o)

Another Weird Dream

It’s not unusual for me to have weird dreams, but I had one last night that might not fall into the category of my weirdest dream ever, but it definitely has me wondering what that was supposed to mean.

I don’t remember much about the beginning of the dream other than I was driving down a street that they were doing some work on. I was going to church. On my way back, when I came to the main road that I needed to turn on, it has been completely torn up and it was very muddy. I was wanted to turn, but in the middle of the side of the road I needed to be on was a HUGE mud hole that there was no way I could drive through. What really frustrated me was that the opposite lane had two lanes of cars and as much as I wanted to try to head in the direction I needed to go in one of those lanes, the cars wouldn’t move into one lane so that cars needing to go in the other direction could use the other lane.

I ended up crossing the road and trying to get where I needed to go by taking a little back road (more of a path than a road), but eventually I ended up at some little cottage because I couldn’t drive any farther. When I got out of the car, I thought I would try to walk the rest of the way, but if I tried stepping off the sidewalk onto the grass, my foot would seep back into the mud because the grass was so wet. There was some other stuff going on at the cottage involving other people, but I don’t remember specifics. I just remember really trying to get to where I needed to go and not being able to get there and feeling frustrated.

I looked some of it up on DreamMoods.com. According to them, to see mud in your dream, suggests that you are involved in a messy and sticky situation. It also suggests that some internal cleansing is needed. To dream that you are walking in mud, suggests that you are feeling weighed down by a situation, problem, or relationship. I could see that right now.

To see a road in your dream indicates your sense of direction and pursuit of your goals. To see a winding, curvy, or bumpy road in your dream, suggests that you will experience many obstacles and setbacks in achieving your goals. You may be met with unexpected difficulties. If the road is dark, then it reflects the darker or more frightening choices which you have made or are making. Didn’t need to hear that.

To see a street in your dream, symbolizes your life's path. The condition of the street reflects how much control you have over the direction of your life. Obviously no control!

To dream that you are driving a car denotes your ambition, your drive and your ability to navigate from one stage of your life to another. Consider how smooth or rough the car ride is. Whether you are driving the car or a passenger, is indicative of your active role or passive role in your life. Well, at least I was driving.

To see a cottage in your dream represents comfort, peace and serenity. You prefer a life of simplicity. The cottage may represent an altered sense of reality and thus may be a means of escaping the responsibilities and problems that may be associated with your home. You need to approach life's difficulties one at a time. Seems contradictory to the rest of the dream don’t you think?

Why can’t I dream about a canoe, candy, a canary or something more encouraging???

Here is another interesting fact about my dreams in general (this one included). If I dream about being in a town, the town always resembles Anthony, Kansas where I was born and spent my childhood. Also, my whole life, it is always dark in my dreams – even if it’s supposed to be daytime, the sky is always dark. I know this is supposed to have a negative connotation to it, but it never bothers me. It’s not like its dark and I can’t see where I’m going, it’s just that the sun isn’t shining.

Week in Review

Sunday:
Sunday morning started with me waking up from a very disturbing dream that caused me to seek out answers. Found this site: http://www.dreammoods.com/. Somewhat helpful, but if nothing else – kind of fun to read what certain things in dreams “could mean” (it’s by no means the standard for everyone).

Monday:
Started out fairly normal with the exception of being really tired since I keep having weird dreams that are keeping me from sleeping well. Then I had the run in with the stupid driver (see previous entry). Then that night I went over to Randy's apartment to play cards, but since it was dark and it had been a while since I’d been there, I went to the wrong apartment. I was a little thrown when a shirtless guy answered the door and then noticed that the décor had changed quite a bit. That’s when I notice I was one building over from where I should have been. Of course, since I had cookies in hand, I think he was going to let me stay.

Tuesday:
By far the most eventful day this week. I had an appointment that afternoon to go to the doctor to have a mole removed from my arm. I’m sitting in the lobby talking to a lady from church who was also waiting to see a doctor when there was this pop and the lights went out for about a second. Little weird, but we just kept talking. A few minutes later a nurse comes out and tells everyone we’ll have to evacuate the building because a transformer blew and started a small grass fire out back. So we all go outside and wait for the fire department. Because of my LOVE of firemen, this alone made my day. By time the fire department got there (which was maybe a minute) the fire was out and they let us go back inside a few minutes later. They were checking the attic while I was in the exam room and it sounded like they were going to come through the ceiling. Having a fireman fall in my lap would have made my year! No such luck. Instead the firemen left and I left the doctor’s office with one less mole than I had that morning (I was going to post a picture of my stitches, but I'll spare you the gory details). The day ended with my trying to put Christmas lights on the tree by myself (a true sight to be seen) and watching A Charlie Brown Christmas (which I hadn’t seen in years, but found even more humorous now than I did as a child).

Wednesday:
Wednesday was a pretty busy day since I accomplished nothing at work on Tuesday, but the only thing eventful was the trip to the chiropractor’s office. A little history, my chiropractor is almost obsessed with setting me up with someone. He is convinced that he can find me a husband. So, I walk into his office Wednesday and the first thing he asks me is “are you up for a blind date?” The man has seriously been scoping out friends and patients to find me a date. As tempting as it is since my dating life has taken a serious dive the last few years, I don’t exactly trust my chiropractor’s taste and based off of information he shared with me about the guy, I think it’s probably wise to pass.

Thursday:
Pretty uneventful other than the fact that I did score a ticket to go see Rascal Flatts on Friday night (thanks Krista). I shouldn’t go because I need to clean house for BK on Sunday, but oh well. Krista and I have discussed my need to wear tight jeans and have big hair so that I’ll fit in with the crowd (and so we’ll have a good story for Bible study). We’ll see…

Friday:
The day started with another disturbing dream. According to the dream site, I’m going through a lot of personal change, personal discovery, inner turmoil and hidden feelings. That site might be more accurate than I thought. On a brighter note, I received my Christmas bonus today which was earlier than normal. It’s not a substantial amount, but every little bit helps this time of year.

So, up to this point, that’s been the highlights of my week. I have a feeling the weekend could be just as entertaining. I’ll keep you posted.
